911 | Patrol cars vandalized outside East Precinct, a rash of trash, brush, and car fires, Club Z death ruled accidental overdose

• East Precinct patrol car vandalism: A man was arrested early Friday after he was caught vandalizing Seattle Police vehicles outside the East Precinct at 12th and Pine. According to SPD’s brief on the arrest, officers inside the station were alerted to a male outside tagging patrol cars with a paint marker and damaging a cruiser’s window around 1:30 AM. Officers rushed outside and quickly arrested the suspect, while documenting the damage to three police vehicles. There were no reported injuries.
• Sunday vehicle arson: A car was also a target Sunday night in an incident in the Central District along Hiawatha Place S. Police say callers reported a suspect broke a vehicle window and set a vehicle on fire outside an apartment building. Responding officers detained a suspect seen walking away. Witnesses positively identified the man, and he was arrested and booked for investigation of arson. There were no reported injuries.
• Rubbish, dumpster, and brush fires: Seattle Fire had a busy weekend and past few days. Crews have been called to twelve outdoor rubbish, dumpster, and brush incidents across Capitol Hill, the Central District, and First Hill including a brush fire at 17th Ave and E Madison on Friday at 4:44 AM; rubbish fires at Broadway E and E Harrison on Friday at 2:45 AM, Rainier Ave S and S Massachusetts on Friday at 7:24 PM, and 1451 23rd Ave S on Friday at 8:08 PM; rubbish fires at 11th Ave and E Spruce on Saturday at 12:43 PM and Rainier Ave S and S Weller on Saturday at 9:17 PM; rubbish fires at 705 E Republican on Sunday at 9:20 AM and Boren Ave and E Spruce on Sunday at 1:31 PM; a dumpster fire at 157 12th Ave on Monday at 6:42 AM, followed by a rubbish fire at 417 E Pine at 7:05 AM, a dumpster fire at Boren Ave and Spring / 1105 Spring at 4:54 PM, and a rubbish fire at 1408 E Union at 6:18 PM; and a rubbish fire at Broadway E and E Republican on Tuesday at 7:09 AM.
• More burning cars: Meanwhile, crews were also dispatched to reported car fires early Friday morning on 18th Ave S, Friday night at Bellevue and Pine, and Saturday night at 12th and Weller. The Bellevue and Pine incident was captured on video by a member and posted to the CHS Facebook Group. The driver was reportedly able to get herself out of the vehicle before the flames spread. There were no reported injuries.

• Carjacker busted: A car boosted in a Capitol Hill carjacking was recovered by police in a North Precinct incident last Wednesday night. SPD says North Precinct officers assisted East Precinct units in tracking down a vehicle taken during an earlier carjacking. Police located the vehicle occupied by the suspect in the Northgate Station parking lot. As the suspect attempted to flee on foot, officers moved in and he was quickly taken into custody. Police say the stolen vehicle was recovered and returned to the victim. A man was robbed of his car at gunpoint in a late August incident at the North Broadway 76 station. We’re checking with SPD to see if the incidents are related.
• Fake permit investigation turns up illegal gun, drugs: A forged trip permit on Capitol Hill led to a felon back behind bars with narcotics and an illegal gun. Patrol officers identified a suspicious vehicle while it was parked in the 1000 block of East Pike, and while they were inspecting a possible fraudulent permit, the driver returned to the car, spoke with them, and admitted to the forgery. During the ensuing late Monday, September 7th arrest, police say they discovered narcotics alongside a handgun with an altered serial number, leading to the driver — a convicted felon prohibited from owning guns — being booked into King County Jail.
• Club Z death an overdose: The King County Medical Examiner says the man who died earlier this month inside a Capitol Hill sex club died of an accidental drug overdose. According to the report, the 62-year-old’s cause of death was “acute drug intoxication including methamphetamine.” Medics were called to the Pike bathhouse Friday morning, September 4th to reports of a man suffering a medical condition at the club. Seattle Fire says its crews began life-saving measures in the just after 9;30 AM call but the man died at the scene.
