- Wingstop stabbing: A man suffered critical injuries in what police say may have been a self-defense stabbing during a fight at the Broadway Wingstop Saturday night. Police were called to the 1800 block of Broadway to the reported altercation and found a 35-year-old bleeding with stab wounds:
Officers determined that while in line at a local restaurant, words were exchanged between the suspect and the 21-year-old man. A fight started inside the business but quickly moved to the sidewalk. The victim and his mother fell to the ground where the suspect stood over them, punching them in both their faces. As the victim was punched in the face, he reached for a pocketknife and proceeded to stab the suspect in the upper right thigh. Several witnesses stated it appeared to be self-defense. The victim stated he stabbed the suspect while defending himself and his mother.
Police say the man who was stabbed was transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical but stable condition. The man who claimed self-defense was taken into custody without incident and transported to the East Precinct. “At the precinct, officers received witness video footage which corroborated the victim’s self-defense account,” SPD reports. The man was released from the precinct but SPD said it continued to investigate the incident. - Child Sexual Abuse Material bust: East Precinct police took a suspect into custody Friday after reports he was “viewing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) in public areas and posting up outside of a middle school to watch the children leave.” According to the brief on the June 5th, 3:30 PM incident, officers arriving at the undisclosed area middle school did not find the man but wrote a report with probable cause to arrest the suspect. SPD says its Internet Crimes Against Children unit detectives recognized the suspect from a previous arrest. ICAC detectives and East Patrol located the suspect and took him into custody without incident. Police say the suspect admitted possessing the illegal material and several items of evidence were collected. The suspect was booked into King County Jail.
- Molotov Cocktail arrest: Police arrested a resident at a 16th Ave boarding house after staff reported they had confiscated “Molotov Cocktails” from a resident with a history of weapons possession. According to SPD, officers responding to the just before noon call were able to take the subject into custody without incident. The Arson and Bomb Squad responded for “evidence collection and to test the devices for flammability,” SPD reports. A search warrant was also prepared for the subject’s room. The suspect was later booked into King County Jail, SPD reports.
- 24th Ave crashes: Police and Seattle Fire responded to two recent crashes along the winding and sloping 23rd Ave/24th Ave corridor. Saturday at 5 PM, a major emergency response was mounted after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole and knocked down wires at 24th and Newton. Firefighters reported the occupant inside the vehicle was not trapped but power lines fell onto a nearby home that needed to be evacuated as a safety precaution. There were no reported serious injuries. Meanwhile, a May 28th crash at 24th and Boyer left one of the two involved vehicles flipped. Responding crews were able to safely extricate the occupant of the flipped vehicle and transport them to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
