  •  Freeway Park dog attack: The Seattle Police Department says officers had to shoot and kill a dog after an attack injured a pregnant woman Friday in Freeway Park. According to SPD’s report on the afternoon incident, the woman was meeting to talk with an ex-partner when the dog attack began. The woman as injured but able to escape and flag down nearby officers:
    As Officers were interviewing the victim, somehow the dog got away from the suspect and ran toward the victim. Officers attempted to give the dog verbal commands to stop but it bypassed everyone and got back to the victim and attempted to bite the victim further. Officers shot the dog to prevent it from further harming the victim.
    Police say the dog was taken to a veterinarian for emergency care but died. The woman was transported to the hospital for treatment. Police say the incident remains under investigation.
  • Deadly weekend in Seattle: Police investigated three deadly shootings over the weekend. Friday, two teens were gunned down as school let out near Rainier Beach High School and the South Shore PK-8 School campus. Early Sunday, a man was shot and killed in dispute near the Sinking Ship parking garage in Pioneer Square.
  • ICE protest support: SPD reports East and West Precinct units provided traffic control to help with crowds during Saturday’s anti-ICE rally and march on Capitol Hill. Police estimate 2,000 to 3,000 marchers participated.
  • ‘Unlawful weapons’ arrest: Police recovered a “handcrafted hatchet and dagger” in an arrest on Capitol Hill last week. SPD reported details of the Wednesday, January 28th incident in which a 41-year-old man was arrested for trespassing on private property while in possession of unlawful weapons. SPD says officers were waved down by a security guard around 11 PM in the 100 block of Broadway E near Capitol Hill Station reporting the trespass:
    During the arrest, police recovered a black hatchet with a duct-tape handle and a makeshift push-dagger wrapped in wire. According to the police report, “This type of dangerous knife does not appear to have any use other than to harm another human being.”
    Police booked the suspect into the King County Jail for Criminal Trespass and Unlawful Use of Weapons.
  • Hate assault reported: Police investigated a possible hate assault on Friday, January 23rd near Seneca and Harvard. SPD says officers were called to the area for an assault reported just before 9 AM. “The victim advised that he was walking in the area and an unknown suspect approached him,” SPD reports. “The suspect called the victim a derogatory name and then sprayed the victim’s face with pepper spray.” The suspect was last seen heading westbound on Seneca. Police say the victim believed that he was targeted because of his sexual orientation. There were no reported arrests.
  • 20th/Jackson gunfire: Police investigated a Friday afternoon shots fired incident at 20th and Jackson. Officers were called to the area just before 4:30 PM where a victim reported that “a random suspect shot at him twice after the victim told the suspect not to use narcotics in the neighborhood.” Witnesses confirmed hearing the gunfire but police could not recover any evidence of a shooting. There were no reported injuries. Video of the suspect’s vehicle was collected by police.
  • Police car damaged: Police were investigating mystery vandalism to a patrol vehicle. SPD says the Tuesday, January 20th attack on the police cruiser went down at undisclosed East Precinct location as the officers responded to a call. At 2221 hour, officers were on a call for service and parked their patrol vehicle curbside. “Officers returned to their vehicle to find the patrol vehicle damaged. Both spotlights were destroyed along with both driver and passenger mirrors. The damage to the driver’s spotlight and also damaged the windshield,” SPD reports. There were no arrests.
  • Hawks gear heist: Off the Hill, a group of thieves is ready for Super Bowl LX. SPD reports a store near Lumen Field was burglarized for more than $50,000 of Seahawks gear Sunday morning.
