Police investigate machete attack at MLK Way RV encampment

A cluster of encampments of buses and RVs along MLK Way became a crime scene Thursday afternoon after a man was reported assaulted with a machete in a pepper spray-soaked attack inside one of the vehicles.

Seattle Police were called to the area near MLK and Yesler after the noontime attack as a 911 caller reported a victim suffered finger amputation during a fight at the RV encampment and was last seen walking to the nearby Fire Station 6 for aid.

According to East Precinct radio updates, police located the victim at the firehouse at MLK and Jackson where Seattle Fire began treatment before transporting the victim to Harborview.

A second victim suffering from pepper spray exposure was also treated at the station.

Seattle Fire reports the victim transported to the hospital as a 35-year-old man.

Police were searching for the suspect last seen on foot in the area near the RVs.

Police located the crime scene and found blood outside one of the RVs parked along MLK and continued searching for the suspect who reportedly also reportedly lived in a vehicle in the area.

UPDATE: SPD has posted a report on the investigation:

A police K9 team tracked the suspect from the RV to a nearby location at Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and East Yesler Street, yet the scent trail ended. The suspect fled the area, possibly in a vehicle, before officers arrived. Police applied for a search warrant for the RV to collect evidence of the crime scene.
