Born on the streets of Capitol Hill’s nightlife food scene, Tacos Cometa ready to debut new Broadway taqueria

Tacos Cometa provided a sneak peek for passersby on Broadway

In December, CHS broke the news that Capitol HIll’s Tacos Cometa was moving inside. This week, the taco stand turned Broadway taqueria is ready for business.

Tacos Cometa has announced its grand opening will come Tuesday at 1620 Broadway. A “sneak peak” taco display in the shop’s window has been helping to build anticipation during the buildout.

Brother chefs Rey and Osiel Gastelum grew a devoted following last year at Nagle and Pine on the edge of Cal Anderson Park as part of the neighborhood’s wild — and delicious — nightlife street food scene. A community-backed plan helped raise the funding they needed to grow the concept into a full restaurant.

True to the Tacos Cometa roots, the new taqueria will keep some late hours, serving until 2 AM on Fridays and Saturdays.

Tacos Cometa joins a robust mix of food and drink in the Broadway Building that is forming a kind of high quality food court across from Seattle Central.

Tacos Cometa’s neighbors include FOB Poke Bar, the Venezuelan deliciousness of Paparepas, and Shawarma Shack. Meanwhile, the backside of the building is home to the famed omakase of Ltd Edition Sushi.

Tacos Cometa opens this week at 1620 Broadway. Learn more at tacoscometa.com.
