King County Council again calls on Assessor to step down over stalking case

The King County Council has again called on County Assessor John Wilson to resign.

In a letter to Wilson authorized this week, the council calls on Wilson to resign over charges, court orders, and stalking and harassment allegations by an ex-partner.

“These allegations and court orders have caused irrevocable harm to the public’s trust and faith in you as a public servant and elected official,” the letter reads. “You have fully lost our confidence in your judgement and ability to perform the duties of your role.”

The letter follows a motion from the council this summer also demanding Wilson resign as he made an unsuccessful run for the King County Executive’s seat.

Girmay Zahilay who signed onto that demand and won the executive race, has also continued to call for Wilson to step down.

Wilson has remained defiant in the face of the calls including a recent social media celebration of a judge’s decision to reverse an order requiring Wilson to wear an ankle monitor after the septuagenarian complained he has a medical condition requiring him to “soak” his legs.

A recall election would be required to remove Wilson before his term ends in 2028.
