Where to watch Seattle’s 4th of July fireworks from Capitol Hill, USA! 250th birthday edition
If you feel a little weird chanting “USA! USA!” after every goal, don’t look great in red, white, or blue, and the idea of a fascist ethnostate makes you a bit queasy, join a few thousand of your closest Capitol Hill friends for a free celebration of independence, freedom, and your America on the slopes of Capitol Hill. You can see the city’s fireworks show from here — and you can make it mean anything you want it to mean.
The 2026 Seafair 4th of July fireworks show over Lake Union is officially a go for Saturday, July 4th. As the nation marks its 250th anniversary, the display is set to light up the sky again this year at 10:20 PM. The show will run for its standard 15 to 20 minutes, backed once again by Amazon. For rebellious types, think of each pop in the sky as a little less budget for the company’s next datacenter.
As for putting on your own show, keep it to sparklers, please. Last year, Harborview treated more than 50 injuries from fireworks.
Here are a few ideas for where to watch:
Capitol Hill Viewpoints
If you are looking to catch the show from the Hill, the classic northwest edge vantage points remain your best bet.
-
The slopes of I-5 Shores: Steep streets like Boston and Lynn or sections along Harvard Ave E offer good sightlines above the lake — and lots of fun with neighbors. Keep an eye out for various peek-a-boo views tucked along the western edge of the Hill
-
Bellevue Place Park & The Roanoke: Grab a spot around the corner from the tavern
-
Lakeview Boulevard E: The stretch just north of the Belmont-Eastlake I-5 overpass is usually packed — and fun.
-
22nd and Galer: If you are on the east edge of the Hill, this area affords distant views of various Eastside suburban displays
Parking Warning: Do not attempt to drive or park anywhere near these viewing zones. Traffic will be a disaster, and parking spots are mathematically nonexistent.
Logistical Closures & Safety
The Seattle Police Department and local neighbors have issued a few crucial reminders over the years to keep the night running smoothly:
-
Lakeview Overpass: Completely closed to both vehicles and pedestrians during the display.
-
Belmont & Bellevue Place intersection: This intersection is a critical emergency vehicle corridor linking Lakeview to South Lake Union. SPD requests that crowds keep this specific intersection entirely clear.
-
Illegal Fireworks: Possession of fireworks remains illegal inside Seattle city limits.
-
911 Dispatch: Please do NOT call 911 to report random fireworks or loud holiday bangs so emergency dispatchers can keep lines open for life-threatening emergencies.
-
Cal Anderson Park: The lights at Bobby Morris field have typically been kept on all night to discourage shenanigans that could damage the artificial turf.
- Air Quality: Get ready for a disgusting spike in AQI as exploding fireworks release a dense cocktail of pollutants into the air. Smells like… victory.
Trash & Neighbor Etiquette
A timeless, golden rule from local residents remains strictly in effect for 2026:
“Please, please, PLEASE take your trash with you. There are people who live here and have to clean up the neighborhood the next morning. Also: don’t pee on our fences. C’mon!”
Tuning in
This is America. You can also watch from your couch:
-
Video: The 2026 fireworks will be broadcast and streamed live locally on FOX 13 Seattle.
-
The Soundtrack: The show features a fully choreographed, musically timed presentation. If you are watching from a secret viewpoint, you can stream an accompanying fireworks score from Classical KING.
Happy Independence Day, Capitol Hill.
