Capitol Hill summer is here. It is time for free concerts and movies in the park. This week brings the first of many free community performances and screenings to Capitol Hill.

Thursday, the Summer Series at the Amphitheater begins in Volunteer Park with a free show by Eldridge Gravy and the Court Supreme. The annual series is sponsored by the Volunteer Park Trust.

Friday, the city’s Center City Cinema screenings come to Cal Anderson for the first night of a handful scheduled for the Capitol Hill park and its sibling Freeway Park:

Cal Anderson Park (1635 11th Ave) at 7:30pm

• Fri, July 10 – Labryinth
• Fri, July 17 – Sinners
• Fri, July 24 – Matilda
• Fri, July 31 – Rocky Horror Picture Show

Freeway Park (700 Seneca St) at 7:30pm

• Fri, August 7 – Footloose
• Fri, August 14 – La La Land
• Fri, August 21 – Fame
• Fri, August 28 – Beetlejuice
