Rider reported in serious condition after car vs. scooter crash at 12th and John

A rider was in serious condition after a car vs. scooter collision at 12th and John Thursday night.

Seattle Fire and Seattle Police were called to the intersection around 6:20 PM. SFD reports it treated a 25-year-old woman in serious condition and transported her to Harborview. Witnesses reported the rider suffered a leg injury and was bleeding from the head.

Police closed the intersection to traffic as they documented evidence and interviewed the driver.

There were no reported immediate citations or arrests.

Seattle is currently assessing its micromobility resources including fleets of rental electric scooters.

Trauma reports for e-bike and e-scooters in the city show that severe injuries have climbed sharply alongside ridership, rising from 29 admissions in 2020 to 163 serious trauma cases in 2024. Totals leapt to 252 serious cases last year with six recorded deaths.

Overall Seattle traffic collisions including motor vehicles result in an average of 25 to 30 road deaths and roughly 1,200 to 1,500 total reported injuries a year.
