West Seattle Election Day scenes, mid-afternoon

Four and a half hours until ballot boxes close at 8 pn. Here’s some of what we’ve seen in West Seattle:

STUDENT SIGN-WAVING: Students from Genesee Hill Elementary went to the heart of The Junction this afternoon to hold signs encouraging people to vote.

BUSY BALLOT BOX: They were near West Seattle’s busiest ballot drop box, on the south side of SW Alaska between 44th and California. Signage will point you there if you have trouble finding it:

We also noted workers in high-visibility vests standing by to help direct traffic. King County Elections confirms those are extra helpers they bring in for their highest-traffic locations.

STEADY STREAM OF VOTERS …including these two, who were excited to be casting their votes. Our crew reports there was even a brief line. So don’t wait until the last moment.

MEANTIME, AT THE COLLEGE: The photo above was sent by Margaret Way, at the South Seattle College (6000 16th SW; WSB sponsor) ballot box, another one of the four in West Seattle – here’s the countywide map.

BALLOT RETURNS SO FAR: Almost 50 percent in our area, per the King County stats.
