Capitol Hill ‘sports bar for everybody’ Pitch the Baby will expand on 19th Ave E

“I must tell you, we’re going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that.” Trump joked in the video call with the U.S. men’s medal-winning team that set off the current controversy. “I do believe I probably would be impeached.” (Image: Pitch the Baby)

The U.S. women’s gold medal–winning hockey team declined an invitation from President Donald Trump to attend his State of the Union address Tuesday night. The players probably won’t be tuning in to the broadcast, either.

The screens at Capitol Hill sports-bar-for-everybody Pitch the Baby also seem unlikely to feature the speech. There are more important things like a recorded Seattle Mariners spring training game to show.

But soon, Pitch the Baby will have a few more screens for Storm tip-offs, Reign kick-offs, Torrent faceoffs, and LPGA tee-offs.

The 19th Ave E sports bar says it is now at work stretching into the full space of the one-time Kingfish Cafe with a bit of construction underway for the expansion. The change means the end of Pitch the Baby’s sibling sandwich shop Condesa next door:

We’re consolidating the Condesa space into Pitch the Baby and making more room to cheer on women’s sports PTB has been given lots of love along with Condesa’s food – the menu isn’t going anywhere, just expanding a little bit as well.

CHS reported last summer on the debut of Condesa and Pitch the Baby as the all-star team of Monica Dimas, Ami Custer, and Kim “Kimfer” Flanery-Rye set out to create a sports bar and hangout with appeal “even if you’re not there to watch a game.”

The group transformed the long-ago Kingfish Cafe space into the new venue while casual Mexican eatery Rocket Taco made a move across the street and is now stretching out at 19th and Mercer in the space once home to Linda Derschang’s Tallulah’s.

Building the project has been a community effort. PTB was able to raise nearly $10,000 in support from crowdsource backers for its initial buildout and opening.

There are plans for another fundraising round as PTB hopes to continue to grow.

Watch @pitchthebabybar for updates on the expansion and how you can get involved.

Pitch the Baby is open at 600 19th Ave E with its expansion coming soon. Learn more at pitchthebabybar.com.
