The 4th came with plenty of booms and flashes with fireworks exploding through the night and early morning. Seattle Police and Seattle Fire were busy with one major 911 incident reported on Cal Anderson’s artificial turf soccer field where a 2 AM bonfire involving wood, debris, and rental bikes and scooters was reported.
Multiple 911 callers just before 2 A M reported crowds between 50 and 100 had gathered around the fire on Bobby Morris Field and that the fire involved wood and multiple e-bikes and scooters. One dispatcher called the conflagration an “e-bonfire” as a Seattle Fire crew was sent to the field.
According to emergency radio dispatches, SFD’s response was delayed as units awaited police efforts to secure the area amid the large crowd. Firefighters were reported battling the fire by 2:20 AM and working to extend a fire hose to finish the job still 10 minutes later.
There were no reported injuries. Damage to the field was being assessed.
Other 911 calls on the night included a brush fire reported at 24th and Prospect.
The incidents came amid what was otherwise a loud but mostly festive night as the country marked its somewhat subdued 250th anniversary.
