C’è sempre tempo per il gelato — Capitol Hill’s Roma Roma adds a gelato counter
What is summer by the Trevi Fountain without a scoop of ice cream? Capitol Hill’s Roma Roma has added a new gelato counter inside the 12th Ave by-the-cut pizza joint.
Chef Forrest Brunton promises “at least six flavors every day.” Highlights include classic Stracciatella with Valrhona chocolate ribbons, rich Valrhona Dark Chocolate made with mascarpone, and Saskatoon Berry Crumble featuring a brown butter-hazelnut crunch.
Fruity offerings range from Strawberry Ricotta to a vegan Peach Tea Sorbet infused with Earl Grey and lemon.
Brunton and his brother Colin opened Roma Roma in February with Roman-style pizza sold by the pound in the space formerly home to the Capitol Hill Racher’s Ginger Beer.
Roma Roma says Brunton’s new dessert creations are “built on his own scratch gelato base with local milk that is very much in the tradition of Italy — creamy and dense, with less fat and less air than standard ice cream.”
The pizza joint spins each batch in a gold-standard Carpigiani machine.
Served in cups or Roma Roma’s house sourdough waffle cones (+$2), sizes start at $6.50 for a piccolo (up to 2 flavors), $8.50 for a medio (3 flavors), and $10.50 for a grande (4 flavors).
Roma Roma is located at 1610 12th Ave. Learn more at romaroma.pizza.
