CHS Pics | A ‘Community Fire Jam’ flows in Volunteer Park
On Tuesdays by the Volunteer Park dahlia garden, the Seattle Flow Arts Collective forms a community of juggling, spinning, and more with its weekly “FlowShop” workshop gathering.
Over the weekend as the collective and friends gathered in the city for Flow Fest Seattle, spinners of another kind met up in Volunteer Park for a “Community Fire Jam.”
CHS stopped through to see the flow.
The collective’s jams include participants at many skill levels and requires spinners to register and complete a mandatory fire safety orientation once per calendar year. Spinners are expected to wear clothing made entirely of natural fibers like cotton, denim, or leather to prevent synthetic materials from causing injuries in the event of an accident. The events are free but participants are encouraged to pitch in to cover insurance and fuel costs. Members of the collective also volunteer their time at crucial stations like sign-in or the Fuel Depot.
The connection to the collective, of course, is about flow more than flame.
