The driver in a collision with a large dump truck was reported dead in a Wednesday morning crash near Medgar Evers Pool just north of the entrance to Garfield High School.

Seattle Police and Seattle Fire were called to the crash scene just after 9 AM to a report of the injured driver.

According to witness reports, the victim’s vehicle appeared to turn in front of the oncoming truck. UPDATE: A Seattle Fire spokesperson confirms the driver has died.

It was not clear if the driver suffered a medical emergency or was injured in the crash. Emergency crews were performing CPR on the driver but he died at the scene, according to witnesses.

The incident took place after first bell as students were in class for their final days of the school year.

The public Medgar Evers Pool remains closed for a major emergency repair project to replace failing beams.

23rd Ave was closed to traffic in all directions during the response.
