eXit Space School of Dance leaves 12th Ave theater space
A Capitol Hill performance and arts space is quiet this summer as the eXit Space School of Dance has closed its NOD Theater on 12th Ave:
“We are grateful to have opened and cultivated NOD Theater over the past five years, but once again, it is time to re-new, re-structure, and move forward in alignment with the long term vision and mission of eXit SPACE,” the school said in its announcement.
eXit departed the theater earlier this summer after completing its season.
CHS reported here in 2024 on the school’s move to Capitol Hill and effort to build NOD in the space formerly home to Velocity Dance.
The theater has a long history in the dance community of Seattle and has been a home to a number of arts organizations.
The closure has quieted a part of this stretch of 12th Ave that has held on as a small artistic center for Capitol Hill. Across the street, the 12th Ave Arts mixed-use affordable apartments, office space, restaurants, and theater space development keeps a busy calendar of performances and events. The building hosts two performance spaces totaling nearly 6,000 square feet: one with room for 149 seats, the other Studio Stage with an 80-person audience capacity.
Capitol Hill arts spaces also got a boost in 2025 as the Seattle Theater Group opened STG at Kerry Hall on the former Cornish College of the Arts property.
The 12th Ave building eXit leaves behind remains in the hands of its longtime ownership as the search for a new arts organization for the space is underway. Earlier this year, Kha-Bar opened in the building, bringing contemporary Bengali meals and cocktails to the block.
