Following pushback over planned billing hikes, Kaiser Permanente has paused a plan to bill walk-in clinic visits at its Capitol Hill Medical Center as emergency room services.
Visits to the Seattle campus’s emergency unit will continue at lower urgent care rates while the provider explores long-term options to host both urgent and emergency care.
The reversal comes alongside Kaiser’s announcement of regional healthcare expansions by 2027. At the Capitol Hill hub, the organization will add 25 inpatient beds, increasing capacity from 18 to 43 across intensive care, telemetry, and medical–surgical units.
To address urgent care shortages north of King County, Kaiser also revealed plans to open a clinic with extended hours inside its Everett Medical Center in 2027.
Regional President Cynthia Dold framed the decisions as responsive to community feedback, emphasizing expanded access to affordable, coordinated care.
