Fauntleroy-Vashon ferry crew rescues kayaker

Thanks for the tips on this! Washington State Ferries confirms that one of its Triangle Route crews rescued a kayaker this morning. One reader with a view of the water saw it, and another one traveling the route on a different boat at the time said theirs had to wait offshore while the rescued kayaker was brought to the dock. No SFD “water rescue” medical response, though, so we had to check with WSF to get info. Spokesperson Brian Vail responded:

Just after 9 am today, the Cathlamet responded to two kayakers in distress between Vashon Island and Fauntleroy. The crew launched the vessel’s rescue boat and assisted a kayaker, who was uninjured and showed no signs of hypothermia. A second kayaker did not require assistance and continued toward Fauntleroy under their own power. The rescued kayaker and their kayak were brought aboard the Cathlamet and later disembarked at Fauntleroy.
