The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed the charge including a firearm enhancement Wednesday.
Solomon Thompson, 38, died of multiple gunshot wounds on the northwest corner of Pine and Belmont.
“The defendant persistently followed and yelled at the victim, essentially trying to turn what should have been no more than a verbal argument into a physical confrontation,” prosecutors write. “He told an independent, uninvolved witness that ‘I’m going to shoot him.’ Minutes later he proceeded to do so, pulling a concealed pistol from his waistband and firing at least 8 shots into the unarmed victim at point blank range in front of multiple horrified witnesses, continuing to shoot him even after he had collapsed to the ground.”
CHS reported here on the Friday night, February 20th shooting that took place in front of horrified onlookers who described Carlee as agitated and yelling about a “child molester” when he pulled a knife and began fighting with the victim before pulling out a handgun and opening fire.
Police say Carlee’s registered 9mm Glock that was recovered at the scene had a “weapon mounted light” and that the shooter was wearing a tactical belt.
Witnesses report Carlee continued to fire even after Thompson fell to the ground. Police recovered eight shell casings at the scene.
According to prosecutors, the autopsy showed Thompson suffered entry and exit wounds accounting for “17 total bullet defects.”
“There was a total of 7 bullet wounds to his torso, one of which was the fatal injury as it penetrated his heart,” SPD’s report on the examination reads.
“No weapons were located on Thompson’s person.”
Police say Carlee was one of the multiple 911 callers who reported the just before 10:30 PM shooting. “That was me. This guy was punching me and shit,” Carlee reportedly told a responding officer.
According to the court documents, the suspect was examined by police after his arrest. No evidence of “any visible redness, bruising, swelling, scratches, or other injuries to Carlee’s face or body” was found.
Police say Carlee did not talk with detectives after his arrest, invoking his right to remain silent and consult with an attorney.
It is not known what brought the suspect to the neighborhood. Carlee’s last known residence is on NE Leary Way but prosecutors say the defendant lacks “a stable address.”
Carlee remains jailed on $2 million bail. He has not yet entered a plea.
