Lark sibling Slab Sandwich is now stretching out on its own on 12th Ave

A summer move has become permanent as Slab Sandwich is stretching out in the 12th Ave home where chef John Sundstrom first started Lark more than 20 years ago.

Sundstrom and team announced the sandwich news to start 2026 in tandem with the end for his “pizza and plates” joint Cora.

The shutdown of the Cora concept ended a decade-long run for Sundstrom’s pizza project in the space.

The 12th Ave space is where the chef’s Lark was born in 2003.

In 2014, Lark made its big move to expand into the overhauled Central Agency building at 10th and Seneca on the backside of Pike/Pine. It was a key transaction in Capitol Hill food and drink history. The move included Sundstrom’s decision to sell off neighboring Lark offshoot Licorous to make way for the now legendary Canon cocktail bar.

The new start for Lark in the overhauled 10th Ave warehouse ten years ago included the opening of Slab Sandwich as a neighboring daytime component to Lark.

Last summer, Slab moved in with Cora on 12th.

Now with the new year, the original Lark space is entirely filled by Slab’s bread and good stuff offerings including its rotating specials and favorites like brisket, fried chicken, or burrata — and chef Sundsrom’s 23-year run on 12th Ave continues.

You can find Lark at 1201 10th Ave. Slab Sandwich is located at 926 12th Ave. Learn more at slabsandwich.com.
