Fundraiser supports The Waxing Diva after unexpected hospitalization
Friends and neighbors are coming together to support a longtime part of the Capitol Hill business and creative community.
A fundraiser to support Travis Powell — 11th Ave’s The Waxing Diva — has raised thousands after his unexpected hospitalization.
“Our dear friend Travis Powell, the one and only Waxing Diva, is currently in the hospital dealing with a serious and unexpected medical situation,” the message from Vermillion owner Diana Adams reads —
If you know Travis, you know how much he shows up for people. He’s built real relationships with his clients and community, and he brings so much personality, humor, and care into everything he does. He’s someone a lot of us rely on and love. Right now, things are uncertain and his focus needs to be on getting through this and recovering. Because of that, he’s missing work and losing income, and we don’t yet know how long that will continue. As someone who works for himself, that gap hits hard.
Powell has been part of the Pike/Pine creative community for years including founding SalonDEWI and other ventures like his REDDrawers designer underwear shop — one of CHS’s first advertisers.
Notoriety as The Waxing Diva grew through the years as Powell’s expertise in Brazilian waxing and manscaping found growing demand beyond burlesque and drag.
“Thank you for showing up for Travis the way he’s always shown up for others,” the message from Adams reads. “He is a true, pure pillar of our community, and we love him so much.”
