Man dead, police searching for suspect in First Hill apartment shooting

A man died at the scene and police were searching for the shooter in a killing in a First Hill apartment Tuesday night.

The Seattle Police Department says it is investigating a homicide and said to avoid the area around the 8th and Madison building while it was conducting its investigation.

According to East Precinct radio updates, police were called to a reported shooting and a person down in a unit of the M Street apartments around 8:05 PM. Arriving officers began CPR until Seattle Fire arrived. The victim was declared dead at the scene.

Seattle Fire reports the victim was a man in his 20s.

Police were canvassing the 8th Ave building seeking witnesses and searching the area for a possible suspect. There were no immediate arrests reported.

The address of the Seattle Fire response to the incident is the same apartment building where Dr. Louis Chen killed his partner and toddler son in an August 2011 tragedy. Chen was later sentenced to 49 years in prison for the murders.
