Price tag for RapidRide G’s big orange panel repairs: $650,000

The Seattle Department of Transportation says the work to permanently fix the RapidRide G line’s center-loading platforms and replace the temporary big orange panels that have been in place along E Madison since the line’s 2024 launch is costing somewhere around $650,000

CHS reported here earlier this month on the work to finally address the construction error but SDOT did not immediately provide a price tag for the construction.

Tow years ago, large orange steel plates had to be installed after it was discovered the platforms were less than an inch too high for the bus wheelchair ramps to properly operate. King County Metro said the platform mistakes were made due to measurements not taking into account raised bumps added for blind and vision-impaired riders.

The final fix involves pouring new concrete at eastbound stop 104 at Terry, eastbound stop 105 at Summit, and westbound 124 at the three-way intersection of Madison, Union, and 12th Ave.

As part of the work, SDOT says it is also now addressing another error of “paint thickness and color, incorrect welds, and holes within the frames” on the $144 million line’s shelters.
