Muslim Hikers: ‘Racism won’t stop us — the outdoors is for all’
For one walking group, being accepted on Britain’s trails and in its national parks is proving an uphill battle. But they’re not about to give in

(THE TIMES) Muslim Hikers emerged in lockdown last year. It started as just an Instagram page to help those in our community struggling with isolation and loneliness but it’s gone from strength to strength and we’re now a global online community.
I’m passionate about the great outdoors and believe it’s there for everyone to enjoy. But there are various historical, social and cultural barriers that need to be overcome if we’re going to address the under-representation of Muslims in our open spaces and national parks.
