Police: 86’d drunk teen shoots up Capitol Hill pizza bar
A petulant teen so wasted he fell to the sidewalk trying to flee from officers was taken into custody early Thursday morning after police say he was bounced from a Capitol Hill pizza joint and allegedly opened fire from his fancy car, riddling the bar with bullet holes and sending shattered glass flying as staff and patrons scrambled for safety.
Police say nobody was hit in the 1:40 AM bout of drunken gun violence but that several people were injured by shattered glass. Fortunately, the only ambulance that was needed was called for the suspect so drunk police say he could not be booked for jail at juvenile hall.
The Seattle Police Department reports the incident began about 20 minutes before last call early Thursday at 11th Ave’s A Pizza Mart when a security guard removed the intoxicated teen who had been “drinking at the bar with his friends, presumed to be using a fake ID” —
Security walked the teen to a Maserati parked in front of the bar, and he got into the back seat. As the luxury car began driving away, the teen shot several times through the back passenger window at security who were still standing on the sidewalk. Video surveillance footage captured the shooting. Five people can be seen narrowly escaping gunfire, running and ducking for their lives. Several gunshots struck the business. No people reported getting shot, but several employees and patrons were injured by shattered glass, according to the police sergeant.
Police made a quick search for the distinctive getaway car and its multiple occupants including the teen shooter. They found the Maserati parked but empty just down the block at 11th and Union with bullet damage to its window and shell casings inside.
Police say as they were collecting evidence and witness statements, they spotted the suspect returning to the bar and gave chase. “He quickly fled when he saw officers but tripped and fell to the ground,” SPD reports.
Meanwhile, SPD says an Uber driver arrived and told police the drunk teen had tried and failed to steal his car at gunpoint.
Police say they arrested the teen for felony assault and robbery and took him to juvenile detention, “but he was too intoxicated for booking and declined at jail, pending medical evaluation.”
The firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered during a search of the area.
Police did not say what became of the drunk teen’s counterparts. The Maserati was impounded and taken into evidence.
