Police say victims in Capitol Hill shooting were bystanders caught in 11th Ave shootout

The Seattle Police Department says the two people shot early Saturday morning on Capitol Hill were bystanders caught in the crossfire of a shootout along 11th Ave.

CHS reported here on the just before 12:45 AM Saturday shooting that caused nightlife crowds to scatter into nearby bars and clubs including the Wildrose and Sam’s Tavern and sent two people to the hospital.

Seattle Fire reports a 29-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were treated at the scene and transported to Harborview, each in stable condition. Police say the victims were bystanders and not involved in the altercation that led to the burst of gun violence.

According to police, security video revealed the shootout happened as a group near the southeast corner of 11th and Pike pursued a male spotted near the southwest corner near the Wildrose and A Pizza Mart and opened fire. The male then returned fire.

Police recovered more than 50 shell casings in the area in front of A Pizza Mart and near 11th and Union, according to SPD radio updates.

According to radio updates, one of the suspects was wearing a black ski mask while another wore a red bandana over his face.

There were no reported arrests.

SPD’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit is investigating.

The incident follows May’s shooting at 10th and Pike outside the Cultura nightclub that sent three to the hospital.



11th Ave has been a center of gun violence in the area. In February, an intoxicated 16-year-old who had been kicked out of A Pizza Mart for using a fake ID opened fire on security outside the venue.

In October 2024, a 25-year-old woman was shot and killed on 11th. The next night, two people were shot at a memorial for the woman on the street.

Saturday’s shooting came on a deadly weekend of gun violence in the city. Sunday night, a shooting during Bite of Seattle left three dead and four injured. Police say the Seattle Center gun violence also appeared to be a shootout involving multiple firearms.
