READER REPORT: Volunteers’ half-ton leaf cleanup for bike routes, pre-windstorm

Thanks to Aaron from West Seattle Bike Connections for sending this report and photos of what WSBC and West Seattle Urbanism volunteers did to clear away more than half a ton of leaves from paths/lanes that were leaf-covered even BEFORE the wind swept through:

Folks who get around by bike have probably noticed the leaves piling up along some of the key routes in West Seattle. In some places, these heavily used routes had gotten so thick with them they presented a hazard.

The city does have a bike-lane sweeper, but this time of year, there are so many places that need attention, it might be a while before we see the problem addressed in our end of town.

So a few of us from West Seattle Bike Connections and West Seattle Urbanists met up on Saturday to clear them out.

We focused on Avalon where we bagged over 1000 lbs of leaves and the Delridge Bike Path – both key routes for the hundreds of cyclists who go through these areas each day.

I’d like to thank the folks from both groups that came out to help with this and make riding in West Seattle safer for all who go through these areas.
