SPD investigating murder after man found dead in Madison Park parking lot

Detectives are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead Sunday evening “with obvious signs of trauma” along an alley behind commercial buildings in Madison Park.

The Seattle Police Department announced the investigation Tuesday afternoon saying circumstances leading up to the killing are under investigation and that there is no suspect description available at this time.

According to SPD, police were called to a report of a person down inside a parking lot in the 4000 block of E Madison just after 5 PM Sunday. “There, officers found a man with obvious signs of trauma,” SPD reports. The Seattle Fire Department pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

He has not yet been publicly identified pending completion of the medical examiner’s investigation.

It is unknown how long the man had been dead. According to East Precinct radio updates, a 911 caller told police the man had not moved for two days. Another witness said they had seen the man alive the day prior.

According to radio updates, police were collecting evidence including security video from nearby residences and businesses. The parking area is near Bert’s Red Apple Market, a Mechanics Bank, and the neighborhood’s busy Starbucks as well as several homes.
