‘Stop the war on women’ — 2026 Women’s Day march circles Capitol Hill

The fight for rights and protesting against war in Iran were front and center Sunday as hundreds rallied and marched on Capitol Hill to mark International Women’s Day.

The rally and demonstration included dozens of protesters in the red dresses of The Handmaid’s Tale marching from Cal Anderson Park.

The year’s edition of the annual demonstration included organizers from Defund Musk, the Seattle Alliance against Racist and Political Repression, and the Seattle chapter of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization.

Seattle City Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck and Seattle City Attorney Erika Evans took part in the rally and marched with the groups.

The Seattle Police Department says its Police Outreach Engagement Team was present at the rally to support the event and “answer any questions community members may have.” SPD also provided traffic control along Sunday’s march route.
