- E Howell carjacking attempt: SPD says the suspects in an attempted overnight armed carjacking on Capitol Hill managed to speed away from law enforcement during multiple incidents early Wednesday morning. According to police, a masked suspect armed with a handgun attempted to hold up a driver parked on E Howell near Bellevue Ave early Wednesday around 1 AM. The victim told police the suspect pointed a handgun at him while and demanded his vehicle and items. According to police, the victim “declined” and the suspect fled with accomplices in a black SUV. The same vehicle had been reported about 15 minutes earlier speeding through downtown with four masked occupants and bags tied over its license plates. Officers searching the area after the attempted Capitol Hill hold-up located the SUV at 10th Ave E and Roanoke where SPD says the driver eluded police and sped away southbound on I-5. According to SPD, Washington State Patrol and King County Sheriff’s Office saw the vehicle near Tukwila but were not able to stop it. The description of the suspicious vehicle also matched details from an assault and burglary in Kent reported earlier that morning. There were no reported injuries and no arrests.
- Broadway crisis ‘gun’ arrest: Reports Tuesday night of a woman in crisis armed with a gun brought a large response as police determined the weapon was only a lighter. Police were called to the area of Capitol Hill Station at Broadway and John around 8:30 PM to the report from a security guard that a woman in crisis was armed with a pistol:
Officers arrived and located the woman in the 1500 block of Broadway holding the item. They used team tactics and verbal deescalation to gain compliance before safely detaining her in this busy area. The woman is a known/often contacted crisis subject in East, and the item was a silver lighter made to replicate a handgun with a 4 inch barrel.
SPD reports the woman was arrested for felony harassment “after making statements that she knew the item looked like a firearm.” There were no reported injuries.

- Summit Ave investigation: SPD says it can’t provide more information about why its CSI unit was at Summit and Thomas early Tuesday morning. “This is an ongoing and active investigation that needed additional resources,” a SPD spokesperson replied to CHS’s inquiry about the investigation. We will update if we learn more.
