The trompos are now spinning at El Pastorcito Taqueria on Broadway
Salute to Ruben from the CHS Facebook Group for breaking the news on El Pastorcito Taqueria’s arrival
Broadway has fully entered its taco era. El Pastorcito Taqueria has arrived with the flavors of Tijuana.
Any traces of the old Broadway Grill and its later iterations have been stripped fully away as the new Capitol Hill taqueria celebrated a soft opening over the just-before-Pride weekend. The roll-up front, simple polished concrete, counter, and kitchen layout looks as sleek as one of Mexico’s grand Terminal de Autobuses. Word has it there is still a bar in the back.
“Sabor 100% Tijuana,” the promos read.
El Pastorcito Taqueria’s arrival on Capitol Hill is an expansion. Pedro Barragan Bautista’s original is part of a complex of Mexican joints in Kent. “The torta here ($11.99) is the diameter of a Dixie paper plate,” the Seattle Times says in its 2025 review. “There’s also at least a half an avocado shoved inside, chopped into buttery slices. Even with the charred meat, this sandwich is on the rich side.”
The Kent space Pastorcito and Barragan Bautista’s Mr. Cammaron Bar & Grill call home stay busy day and night, taking on a late-night club atmosphere with DJ nights and dancing.
The club vibe will be familiar to the mix of the previous occupant of the old Broadway Grill. Paradise, a Mexican joint with a diner’s menu, opened in the space in 2024 and also made a similar nighttime transition into club-mode on weekends.
Next door, the Paradise business family remains part of the block where they opened Birrieria Jalisco #1 in the old ice cream parlor turned teriyaki joint. The parking lot is also home to their Antojitos Jalisco food truck.
Barragan Bautista’s other projects include food truck El Pollo Rey, by the way.
Barragan Bautista and El Pastorcito Taqueria’s move onto the block into the onetime Broadway Grill adds to a street that has recently grown rich in tacos.
In March, brother chefs Rey and Osiel Gastelum opened Tacos Cometa on Broadway after growing a devoted following over the previous year on the edge of Cal Anderson Park as part of the neighborhood’s wild — and delicious — nightlife street food scene.
In 2025, Carmelo’s Tacos expanded on Broadway as it has grown from its start in a counter space inside the Hillcrest Market.
As for El Pastorcito Taqueria, you are in for “an authentic bite of Mexico” with $5.95 tacos cut from a trompo spinning round and round in a Broadway restaurant space that keeps changing right along with Capitol Hill.
El Pastorcito Taqueria is located at 314 Broadway E. Follow @elpastorcitotaqueria for updates.
