In case. you’ve missed our previous mentions, here’s a reminder:
Earthquake and Tsunami – How It Will Affect Our Area and How to Prepare
Presented by Fauntleroy Community Association (FCA)Our presenter Mac Macdonald is an emergency response strategist specializing in “What If” scenarios. He is a volunteer First Responder with CERT (Citizens Emergency Response Teams) and is an active participant in Washington State Emergency Preparedness. Imagine a predicted seismic 9.0 strength earthquake along the Cascadia Subduction Zone, or one along the Seattle Fault Zone that runs directly under downtown and West Seattle.
In one case, we will have time to prepare for a tsunami. If the earthquake occurs along the Seattle Fault Zone, the damage from the shaking and accompanying tsunami will be immediate. In either case, damage will occur hundreds of miles inland due to power outages and refugee impacts.
Now stop imagining it because it IS going to happen. Will it be as severe as predicted? Perhaps not, but we hope for the best and prepare for the worst!
GET INFORMATION ABOUT:
What is it? Are we in the time window? How fast will the first wave travel? How soon it will hit Seattle, specifically West Seattle, and at what strength? Where is my evacuation route? What is high ground? What is and should be in an emergency backpack? What to do with animals – how to care for them after an earthquake? What if your loved ones are in different parts of the city? With phone and cell towers down, how will you communicate? What about boaters? So many questions! Come hear about what you can do to be prepared.
It is an engaging slideshow presentation, and highly educational.
It is not scary, just “awarey.” The key is:
Don’t be scared, be aware. And don’t just be aware, be prepared.
