No light rail between Capitol Hill and the stadiums Sunday (which is OK because there is no sportsball in Seattle this weekend)
Part of several closures for maintenance and construction work through the end of the year will suspend light rail service Sunday between Capitol Hill Station and Stadium Station.
Sound Transit says this weekend’s suspension is needed while crews work to replace a cracked rail on the northbound track near Westlake Station.
Trains will operate every 15 minutes between Lynnwood and Capitol Hill and every 10-15 minutes between Angle Lake and Mount Baker during the work. Shuttle buses will operate between Capitol Hill and Stadium every 10-15 minutes to fill the service gap.
The work is expected to be wrapped up in one day but check ST’s service alerts for updates.
CHS reported here on Sound Transit’s plans for a series of “strategic closures” to end 2025 to complete repairs, maintenance, and important work to add a new second line through the city.
Sound Transit is preparing to begin service on its 2 Line and the new connection to the region’s light rail system across Lake Washington via I-90. That extension and the Central District’s new Judkins Park Station — and its Hendrix inspired design — has been pushed back to a 2026 opening.
It is a quiet weekend for the city’s stadium district as the Seahawks are on the road in Los Angeles while the Sounders and the Reign have both been eliminated from their playoffs.
