‘Weird flyer’ strewn on multiple West Seattle streets

Since this morning, we’ve heard from more than a few people who had found what one described as a “weird flyer” on their cars along streets west of The Junction, with this heading:

It’s accompanied by grainy black-and-white images that appear to cross-reference as photos of men many have seen, local rock ‘n’ roll superstar Eddie Vedder and country great Waylon Jennings. The rest of the flyer has nothing to do with them – sketches and text about a 2001 triple-murder case in Florence, Montana, and suggests the case is unsolved.

However, comprehensive searching (not AI) suggests it’s more like unresolved.

Two men were arrested and charged; according to this 2021 report, the charges eventually were dropped because prosecutors didn’t have enough evidence to go on, though the men both went to prison on other charges.

There is no indication online of an official search for someone, though sketches on the flyer trace back to a site purporting to be a true-crime podcast.

Even weirder, the QR codes go to a page with a research abstract dating back about a year suggesting the death of another Seattle rock superstar was homicide, titled “A Multidisciplinary Analysis of the Kurt Cobain Death.” (Here’s what Snopes.com made of that study.)

So who distributed the flyers and why? No hint of that yet. But it seems to have been widespread enough that someone likely has it on security video.
