WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Mom’s warning after kids report harassment/possible luring attempt near Arbor Heights Elementary
Received tonight from the mother of one of the children involved:
My 10-year-old son and his friend left school (Arbor Heights Elementary) after crossing guard duty today 10/29 at about 2:40 pm. A young man (roughly early 20s) and another person in a beat-up old teal sedan with no license plates approached the children and engaged them in conversation at 104th and 39th right near the school. No one else was around. The kids quickly became very uncomfortable and walked away. The car continued along 104th but turned around at 40th (just about 1.5. blocks away) and headed back toward the kids. The kids ran away and hid in the bushes. They heard the car nearby as the driver revved his engine (possibly no muffler?).
The children were emotional as they continued to hide in the bushes. They called a parent, who lives nearby, who proceeded to run from their home a few blocks away. The parent saw the teal car as described. The driver spoke to the parent in a manner that suggested he knew exactly what he was doing (scaring /harassing the kids) and then sped off. The parent confirmed there was no license plate.
The man was not well identified but is assumed to be white with a goatee and perhaps red hair or bleached blond /orange. There was another individual in the car that was not well identified.
Please report suspicious activity involving a beat-up teal-colored sedan car (perhaps a very old Toyota Camry) to the police. There is a police report on file documenting this incident. The school has been notified.
The SPD log indicates the report # is 26-322760.
