A teen rider died Tuesday night in a crash at the I-5 Colonnade Mountain Bike Skills Park.
Seattle Fire and Seattle Police were called to the bike riding area below I-5 between Capitol Hill and Eastlake just after 6 PM to a reported crash involving an approximately 14-year-old male. According to emergency radio updates, CPR was underway as crews arrived to render aid.
A Seattle Fire spokesperson tells CHS the young rider died of his injuries.
Seattle Police and the King County Medical Examiner were at the scene to investigate. The crash was reported to have occurred within the park and did not involve a motor vehicle.
A chaplain was called to the scene to provide support.
CHS does not have information about where in the park the crash occurred. Seattle Fire crews were directed to the Eastlake side of the park near E Howe and Franklin Blvd E.
Last June, cycling organizations celebrated a $314,000 overhaul of the city’s I-5 Colonnade mountain bike park including a new paved track for young riders and those riding mobility devices.
